Koprivnica-Križevci County
Koprivnica Križevci County (Croatian: Koprivničko-križevačka županija; Hungarian: Kapronca-Kőrös megye) is located in northwest and centralCroatia. Koprivnica Križevci County includes 3 towns: Koprivnica, Đurđevac and Križevci, and 22 municipalities. The county’s total area consists of 1.748 km² and has 101.661 inhabitants (2021). Forests cover about 1/3 of the County’s area.
Koprivnica-Križevci County borders to Međimurje County in the north, Varaždin County in the northwest, Zagreb County in the southwest, Bjelovar-Bilogora County in the south, Virovitica-Podravina County in the southeast and Hungary in the east. The county is an important traffic corridor between Hungary and Central Croatia towards the Adriatic Sea.
Koprivnica-Križevci County lies at the fertile Drava river basin, between the Hungarian border along the river Drava and the forested Kalnik and Bilogora mountains. Parallel to the development of entrepreneurship and industry, the County area is still customary for agriculture. So, its natural wealth, rich culture, and traditional values expressed in modern form through naive painting, local cuisine, events, folklore, and faith have made it a favorite year-round destination.
Summertime in the County is filled with various events, especially related to the preservation of cultural and sacral heritage, traditions, and keeping old tales alive, like Motives of Podravina, Renaissance Festival, The Legend of Roosters, Great Get-together of Križevci, or walking on the pilgrimage route Camino Podravina.
