Dear Members of the Alps-Adriatic Alliance,

On behalf of Međimurje County, a long-standing and active member of the Alps-Adriatic Alliance, I extend my cordial greetings and sincere appreciation for your continued support in advancing our interregional cooperation.

The presidency of the Alps-Adriatic Alliance for the period 2026–2027, entrusted to Međimurje County, represents both a great responsibility and an opportunity to further strengthen interregional cooperation among Alliance members. During this period, we will actively contribute to joint initiatives, encourage partnerships, and further enhance the work and visibility of the Alps-Adriatic Alliance.

For decades, the Alps-Adriatic Alliance has served as an important platform connecting regions, institutions and organisations that share a common interest in the stable, sustainable and inclusive development of our wider area. Through numerous projects, thematic networks, and initiatives, we’ve shown that interregional partnerships are essential for knowledge exchange, strengthening institutional capacities, and delivering tangible benefits for our citizens.

In the context of dynamic changes in the European political and economic environment, as well as new development priorities of the European Union—particularly in the areas of the green transition, digital transformation, sustainable regional development and social inclusion – we consider it important to continue strengthening cooperation within the Alps-Adriatic Alliance and to further encourage joint initiatives and projects that contribute to the development of our regions and the well-being of our citizens.

At the same time, we believe that the further strengthening of the Alliance can also be supported through its gradual enlargement by welcoming new partners who share the common values and interests of interregional cooperation in the Alps-Adriatic area. This enlargement can help share new experiences, expand partnership networks, and strengthen the Alliance’s role as a platform for cooperation among regions and institutions in this part of Europe.

Međimurje County strongly supports efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation among members, improve the Alliance’s communication and digital tools, and develop thematic initiatives that will contribute to the sustainable development of our regions. We particularly welcome initiatives that encourage greater involvement of institutions, the academic community, civil society, and younger generations in the Alliance’s activities.

During our presidency, we will seek to further encourage cooperation among members, develop new projects and initiatives, and strengthen the Alliance’s visibility within the European framework of interregional cooperation. Together, we can strengthen the Alps-Adriatic Alliance as a platform for European interregional cooperation that supports our regions, strengthens partnerships, and promotes shared values of openness, solidarity, and sustainability.

Međimurje County remains a reliable partner to all members of the Alliance, and we look forward to continuing our successful cooperation and to developing new joint projects in the years ahead.
