In the course of this year´s “European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC)”, Varadžin County organized the workshop “Interregional Organizations – a platform for regional development strengthening” at the European Parliament in Brussels on October 10th 2018. The event was organized in cooperation with the Croatian MEP Ivan Jakovčić from the County of Istria. Together with the current Chairman of the Alps-Adriatic Council, Varaždin County Prefect Radimir Čačić high-level politicians from the AAA-members discussed the added value of the last 40 years of interregional cooperation in the Alps-Adriatic area and the influence of interregional organizations on cohesion policy in general. Besides the AAA also the Assembly of European Regions and the interregional efforts of the Italian Autonomous Region of Valle d´Aosta were presented and discussed at this meeting.
Among the political representatives from the AAA-members were the President of the Regional Parliament of Burgenland Mr. Christian Illedits, the Carinthian Deputy CoR-member Herwig Seiser, Deputy Prefect Jasna Petek from Krapina-Zagorje County, Deputy Prefect Ratimir Ljubić from Koprivnica Križevci County, Prefect Matija Posavec from Međimurje County along with Deputy Prefect Sandra Herman, Minister Barbara Eibinger-Miedl from Steiermark/Styria and President László Majthényi from Vas County.
The follow-up of this event is going to be a political conference on the occasion of 40 years of interregional cooperation in the Alps-Adriatic area which will be organized in Varaždin on November 20th 2018.
